"I want my family to receive this kind of care, too."
"You've taken great care of my parents and you're doing a great job for us. Can you talk with my kids, too?"
"I want to learn about investing – and what else I should be thinking about, financially."
Our team worked with a couple for over two decades. The husband recently passed away. The surviving spouse had delegated much of the household financial decision-making to her husband but now sought our help and insights from a new vantage point. Nonetheless, she had a strong appreciation for her husband's financial stewardship; they had encouraged it with their children – and even their grandchildren. We helped her to continue making meaningful and strategic gifts to younger generations within the family; in time, we were introduced to her children and grandchildren and began new client relationships at each generation. At the next generation, we welcomed new clients: a couple in their 50s who were both successful in their careers and interested in their investments but finding less and less time to handle things themselves. They decided to engage our team as a layer of advisors who could highlight action items and important considerations whenever we meet. They are considering early retirement and are concerned about health insurance because they would not yet be Medicare-eligible. We discussed different options with them and ultimately referred them to an independent health insurance expert who was able to help them find an appropriate, cost-effective solution. They appreciate working with our team and introduced their daughter to us; she is in her early 20s and just getting started in her career. The first meeting was relaxed – at a coffee shop. She enjoyed the meeting and decided to work with us, as well, in part to ensure that she is making the right "first steps" in managing her own money; in this case, a smaller account that her parents started for her and was recently retitled to her name, individually.
